During COVID-19, what are the challenges and difficulties you face? And how does it affect your mental state?
You just have to keep going on.
The pandemic made Pisith stuck in Singapore and forced to organize a way to manage his team and workshop virtually. However, Pisith didn’t look on the dark side of the world’s pandemic but instead focused more on his own work to keep himself moving on. Through several rounds of adjustments, Garden of Desire came up with the best working routine under the pandemic. They were more than proud of what they have achieved and how they have overcome all these challenges.
Unlike Garden of Desire, Mittag Jewelry came across more difficulties due to COVID-19. Ling-Wei’s employee quitted for health and safety concerns of facing customers physically everyday during the pandemic outbreak. Hence, she had to bear the responsibility of serving the customers, while taking care of house works at the same time. Although facing such challenges, Ling-Wei still looked at the brighter side. She made fun of herself saying that since sales decreased sharply at that time, she had more time to spend with her family.

How to stay true to yourself and maintain creative motivation through the pandemic period? Show us your new creation during the pandemic.
During bad times, you have to focus your mind on something else to feel relieved.
“Memories of landscape” is a collection of jewelry that was launched recently. It features raw pieces inspired by the majestic and natural landscapes. Agnes and Pisith used to travel a lot, which was something almost impossible to do during COVID-19. Not being able to immerse himself in mother nature, Pisith decided to use the beauty of nature as a reference and designed a series of jewelry heavily textured. The production process of this collection was very different from the past ones. “The beautiful design is all about sensation”, said Pisith. To inspire others in the design and production team, Pisith asked his colleagues to think of nature and leverage on whatever feelings that came up to them.
As for maintaining creative motivation, Agnes said it is crucial to first take care of the welfare of everyone on the team, both physically and mentally. Especially since they have worked together with the team for over ten years, they care even more. Agnes and Pisith would check in with their colleagues regularly and try to cheer them up as much as possible.
On the other hand, Mittag Jewelry also launched several pieces of accessories recently. Ling-Wei went for a bolder style and designed a chunky necklace for female customers. Apart from that, since she discovered that more male customers than expected interested in her products, she launched a few unisex accessories such as an ear cuff of minimal design and wedding rings made from fair trade silver/gold.
As you may see from Mittag Jewelry’s products, minimalism is one of the common features of Ling-Wei’s design. “Simplicity is the key”, she said. Ling-Wei simplifies any inspiration gained from her daily life and sceneries from nature and transforms that into beautiful pieces we now see.

What Garden of Desire prepared is a pair of earrings from their newly launched “Memories of Landscape” collection. Agnes herself loved the earrings so much, it had been her everyday go-to accessories. The earrings represent rock that is carved by water over time, condensing the power of nature into an accessible accessory. Garden of Desire believes that good jewelry is what complements the personality of the person wearing it, and these earrings they picked would stand out on Ling-Wei.
After doing this interview with Agnes and Pisith, Ling-Wei chose a statement silver ring for Pisith. Through their talk and past interviews she read about Pisth, she sees him as a strong, brave, and inspiring figure. Hence, Ling-Wei thought that the ring would really fit Pisith’s personality. Moreover, the material of the ring has its own story. The ring was made from “organic silver”, recycled from computer boards and processed with zero pollution.
